Barefoot Yacht Charters, the longest-established yacht charter company in the southern Caribbean, was founded and developed by Mary Barnard in 1984. Her family first sailed these waters more than 200 years ago, and the tradition continues right the way to the present generation.
Barefoot has since developed into one of the most successful and reputable charter operations in the industry and is one of the very few in the Caribbean that is locally owned – and this gives us the distinct and unusual advantages of insight and local knowledge that other charter companies, no matter how experienced, simply cannot offer.
Barefoot’s owners and management are on site – not sitting in a corporate office 2,000 miles away. They are also keen sailors, have owned a number of yachts themselves and know the Caribbean intimately. Mary’s son, Philip Barnard is Operations Manager, a former America’s Cup sailor and professional racing yachtsman.
Philip also provides what 99% of our guests rate as the best chart briefing they’ve ever received. He is approachable, a wealth of local knowledge, a talented surfer and is passionate about the environment.
Our facility – which we designed, built and own ourselves – is a full-service Marine Centre with docks and secure moorings, offices and workshops, showers and bathrooms, laundry, internet café, provisioning services, boutique, surf shop and water-sports centre, Raymarine Electronics Shop (the only one in the country), a professional yacht sales office, ocean-view accommodation suites, a Mediterranean Restaurant and an air-conditioned wine bar.
We also operate the only professional sail repair loft in St Vincent and are agents for Doyle, Evolution and North Sails. The company welcomes an unusually high number of repeat customers every year – many have chartered more than a dozen times with us, and some on more than 20 occasions.
