The British Virgin Islands consist of the main islands of Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada, and Jost Van Dyke, along with over fifty other smaller islands and cays. About 15 of the islands are inhabited. The capital, Road Town, is situated on Tortola, the largest island, which is approximately 20 km (12 mi) long and 5 km (3 mi) wide. The islands have a population of about 27,800, of whom approximately 23,000 live on Tortola.
British Virgin Islanders are classed as British Overseas Territories citizens and since 2002 have had full British citizenship. Although the territory is not part of the European Union and not directly subject to EU law, its citizens are deemed to be citizens of the EU as well.
When you arrive at base, you will receive a detailed chart-briefing. We will talk you through all the ‘must-see’s’, things not to miss and obstacles to avoid, and we will fill you in on all our personal favourites. We will give you a good idea of which route to take based on your group, the weather and any events taking place, whether you want to join in the action, or stay away from the crowds.
We will provide you with a ‘Cruising Guide to the Virgin Islands’ and a chart of the local area, for use during your trip. If would like to purchase your own copy of the cruising guide you can do so from amazon.com. You can also visit www.onlinecruisingguide.com for a free digital version.
This 8 Day itinerary is intended as a guide to help you plan your trip around the Virgin Islands. It is good to have an outline of where you would like to go, and things you would to see, but we do advise you to remain flexible and allow for the unforeseen.
