  • CATAMARAN LEARN N CRUISE.

On this week-long cruise you will explore the Islands of the Grenadines on one of our swift, stable, spacious catamarans.

ASA 101 to 114 week long Learn And Cruise on a Catamaran

 $2895.00 pp

Last minute discounts available

The Basic Learn-’N-Cruise (LNC) Catamaran course offers ASA 101, 103, 104 and 114 Multihull certifications.  ASA 104 is recognized by charter companies around the world as a charter credential in conjunction with ASA’s International Proficiency Certificate.

As with the monohull (single hull) courses, we run the catamaran certification cruises most weeks of the year (we’re the most active ASA sailing school in the south-eastern Caribbean and with more than 20 years, the longest-established).

On account of the design, construction and sailing characteristics of a multihull, there are certain aspects of groundwork sail training which are more easily demonstrated on a monohull.  Whilst it’s not an issue for complete novices to take our Cat cruises, if you have the opportunity to get out on a monohull prior to arrival, we strongly recommend that you do so – it will stand you in good stead.

Catamarans are a gentler introduction to life afloat than a monohull – they don’t heel (“lean over”) and have tons more deck space.  They are very often also faster than single-hulled yachts.

The courses run from a Sunday morning through noon the following Saturday. Our courses are designed to help every student move as far along the continuum of sailing skills as possible, depending on their starting point and aptitude.  Many guests with limited or no experience are able to progress as far as ASA 101 and some with exceptional aptitude may also earn 103 certifications.  Guests who have significant prior sailing experience are frequently are frequently able to progress as far as ASA 104 and 114, as are students who already have ASA 101 or 103.  However, novice sailors should not expect to earn 104 or 114 after a single week of sail instruction.

Whilst the aim of these cruises is to offer guests the opportunity to pass an internationally recognised certification on board an ocean-going yacht, we also remember that this is a vacation – and thus leisure time will be available for swimming, snorkelling, diving, or exploring ashore. The Instructor will run the course at the pace of the guests, with their safety and comfort of prime importance and guests will have every opportunity to participate in the planning of the itinerary and daily schedule.

We will do our best to match up guests with similar objectives and to enable them to achieve the level of certification that equates to their experience. Instruction is highly personalized and therefore differing levels of experience amongst the guests does not necessarily present a problem.

NOTE: Prices above are USD per person based on a double occupany of a cabin/berth. To reserve a cabin for single occupany, the single occupany supplement is $600.

Course Outline

  • Students usually meet up with the Instructor at 0930 a.m. on the Sunday. You’ll then board the yacht, stow your gear and be given a vessel orientation and safety briefings.  After lunch, the yacht will set sail for Admiralty Bay, Bequia, only an hour across the channel.
  • Neither the itinerary nor the day’s schedule are carved in stone, but the typical day will consist of: Early morning, swim, breakfast on board
4 to 6 hours under sail and instruction
Arrival at a new anchorage by mid afternoon
De-briefings, time to explore ashore or swim/snorkel
    Sunset drinks on board
    Dinner on board or ashore
  • We provide pretty well everything you’ll need including linens and towels (also beach towels), full snorkel gear, and food for most meals.  Students are expected to share in meal preparation and clean-up duties.
  • The yacht will usually be in the 38 to 45 foot range.  Couples will have their own cabin, singles may arrange their own cabin by paying the “single supplement”
  • During the week the instructor will offer the curriculum for four levels of certification: 101 Basic Keelboat, Basic 103 Coastal Cruising, 104 Intermediate Coastal Cruising (Bareboat Certification) and 114 Cruising Catamaran. For a perspective on how much a novice sailor can progress in a week please see this blog article.
  • The course will end on Saturday, with the yacht returning around 11.00 a.m.  so a flight departure of 3.00 p.m. or later will work fine – though if you need to leave earlier, please let us know and we can work around it.
  • Although no prior sailing is required, if you own a boat or have friends who own one, it will be an advantage to try and get out on the water before you get here

Course Objectives

  • LEARN THE BASICS!

Through the Basic-Learn-n-Cruise Course we will start from the beginning and learn the basics.
